IKEA is fantastic for kid’s furniture because it’s so simple and affordable. However, that Scandinavian style is not for everyone and sometimes the overall aesthetic is a little cold. There are so many ways to spruce up and upcycle IKEA Kid’s furniture, so think again before you give that old LACK table the boot. Not everyone has the skills to DIY, paint and transform furniture, but decals are a really easy way to give a piece of furniture a new lease of life!

I have a love/hate relationship with IKEA. I hate that their carts only hold one child (read my open letter on the subject here), and the mirror maze layout of their stores is stressful at the best of times. However, I love that some of their furniture is cheap enough to play around with. The Twins’ IKEA KALLAX custom closet is still going strong and it was was an absolute bargain to put together. I love their clean and simple style and it appeals to my minimalist tendencies.
I’m also a huge fan of Etsy and the genius creative ideas that small businesses come up with. This post mashes these two together and I’m showcasing my top choices for creative decals that with easily upcycle your IKEA kid’s furniture.
10 Etsy Decals to UpCycle IKEA Kid’s Furniture
DUKTIG Play Kitchen
I love these juice bar decals for the DUKTIG Play Kitchen. The same company makes a bakery, a burger joint and more! We often give our little kitchen a makeover and recently turned it into a popcorn stand, and this juice bar is just adorable.
Flip your kitchen back the other way and there are also plenty of decals you can use to upcycle and personalize. These watercolor cactus decals are a particular favorite of mine… you know I love a cactus design!
KALLAX Storage Unit
The Kallax storage unit is so versatile. This unit was the basis for the Twin’s closet makeover and we also have another unit in the playroom with storage boxes. I picked this design because I notice flamingos are becoming the new unicorn… have you noticed? These flamingo decals are will give any room a boost!
LACK Table
LACK tables are so affordable and versatile! I’ve seen many an IKEA hack using these tables and I love how this monochrome roadmap decal looks. My boys love the roadmap play mat in their bedroom and I know they’d have fun with this too.
KURA Bed
The KURA bed is so clever and a great price. It has a number of different configurations and it’s simple design calls out for some creativity. The tropical cheetah decals shown below are gender neutral and a lot of fun, it’s making me what to get a bedroom makeover on the go!
Speaking of bedroom makeovers… if you want to see more of this adorable bedroom, check out the big reveal at The Divine Living Space. Spoiler alert: The bed actually has a pretty flower design on the side and a leopard print ceiling… it’s gorgeous, check it out –> here.
I couldn’t resist also including these bug kids bed decals… too cute!
MALM Dresser
The MALM dresser is another IKEA staple, super simple in design and perfect for decorating. These vintage style flower decals for the MALM dresser work perfectly for kids and grown ups alike.
SUNDVIK Chairs
Although the chairs in the image below are not SUNDVIK, the decals are made to fit kid’s chairs including those sold at IKEA. These monster design chair decals bring bold color and fun to any playroom.
STUVA Storage bench
The Lack table is not the only piece of furniture you can upcycle into a car play table. This roadmap decal for the STUVA storage unit is perfect too!
TROFAST Storage
This one is for the ultimate toy organizers among you… declutter and sort your toys with these colorful toy bin labels. I do like a bit of geeky organization!
Cabinet doors
This adorable hedgehog decal is perfect for any cabinet or storage unit door. The company that makes them have a gorgeous selection, including some for full scale doors… it was tough to pick my favorite!
