5 Ways to Style the Pastel Decor Trend

Keep Your Pastels Pale and Muted

Step away from the rainbow unicorn poop and welcome a calmer tone. From dusky pinks to mint grey, I’m in love with the toned down pastels of the moment. Paired with linen textures and natural wood tones, the pastel decor trend can be as grown up as you want it to be.

You don’t have to paint the walls to get involved in pastels. Stick to a neutral backdrop and incorporate pastel highlights in lighting, wall art, and soft furnishing. A little goes a long way!

Pastel Statement Pieces

I am crazy about the color combination in the image below. The pastel yellow side table is bold without overpowering, and I’m all about pale floors. It’s the carefully placed combination of whites, beige, and pastels which works so well to create an air of calm.  I’m feeling more graceful pegasus over unicorn!

Children can pull off a little more of an ice cream vibe and this bold aqua pastel wall color looks fabulous against the pink painted night stand. A few black details like the framing make all the difference to keep it modern and add contrast.

Don’t be Afraid to Bring Pastels into the Kitchen

Who’s ready to get a little retro and bring some pastel shades into the heart of the home. Whether you’re painting cabinets, tiling a splashback or adding a few pastel appliances, it certainly brings the warmth that we have been lacking from the white kitchens of recent years.

Can we talk fixtures for a moment? How do we feel about pink bathtubs and basins? How many times did you walk into Grandma’s bathroom and think… what were you thinking? Well, the pastel decor trend is back, including kitchen and bathroom fixtures. How about this beautiful pink kitchen sink… I love it!

Pair Pastels with Mustard Yellow & Forest Green

If you’re concerned your home is goign to look live it’s inhabited by Care Bears, there is a quick fix. Include contrast with black, mustard yellow and tropical deep green vegetation. Think palm leaves and deep gold velvet… Miami Vice meets the Amazon rainforest.

It’s all about the Pastel Seating

The question is… will the pastel decor trend pass quickly, leaving you feeling outdated? If you’re worried, stick with some feature pieces like seating. It makes a statement but it’s easy to replace. Mixed pastel bar stools are whimsical and bring a little fun to the kitchen…

I’m including this one for a little contrast… literally. Pastels don’t just work with whites and greys, this room pairs pastel pink with coral, deep green and black. A gorgeous mid century modern vibe, it may not be for everyone but I think it looks fantastic!
